What should I do immediately following an accident?
If the accident results in physical injury, then any medical needs should be addressed first. 911 should be called so that the appropriate law enforcement agency and any necessary medical personnel can respond to the scene of the accident. It is important to take photographs of the accident scene as well. Even photographs taken with a cellular phone can be helpful. Gathering the names and contact information of any witnesses should also be done as soon as possible.
If I am involved in an accident, do I really need a lawyer to help me?
It is always wise to at least consult with a lawyer if you have been involved in an accident. Among other things, a lawyer can professionally evaluate any medical, insurance, and property claim issues that are likely to arise as a result of an accident.
How long does it take to resolve an accident case?
It is important to remember that each accident case is different. Accidents in which the injuries are extensive can sometimes take several years to resolve. Patience is very important when resolving an accident case. Some of the factors that influence the amount of time that it takes to resolve an accident case are: the amount of damage to the vehicle; the extent of the physical injuries to the individual; and the nature of the negotiations with the insurance company. Resolving an accident case too soon may result in not receiving all of the compensation that you deserve.
